The DOJ will provide you with a small list l of peer providers and vendors where you will eventually purchase your equipment and process your livescan through. Your equipment must be compatible with the vendor you select from this list.
That is why you WAIT to purchase your equipment.
Terms you need to be aware of
Transmission Fee: The cost a peer provider charges to submit the livescan. The transmission fee ranges greatly What you need to understand is this fee is paid from your profit. The transmission fee could be a bundle, like $100.00 for as many fingerprints you submit in a month. Or, $150.00 up to 500 fingerprints submitted and than .50 for each additional submission. It could also be $5.00, $10.00 or more each time you hit enter. Some providers charge a fee for flat only. This is particular fee may impact your group pricing.
Rolling Fee: The fee you charge to roll fingerprints. Your profit.
Agency Fee: This fee is set by the DOJ. You will collect this along with your rolling fee. You will receive an invoice monthly from the DOJ. "Give me my money" So don't spend it.
Billing Number: A billing number on a livescan form means you have the option to use the billing number and the agency fee will now be billed to the agency and not you. So, you only collect the rolling fee. Note: If agency does not pay, you are ultimately responsible to pay this. I personally always accept billing numbers and never had an issue.
Flats: Four fingers flat on the screen
Rolled: Rolled fingers and thumbs from nail edge to nail edge.
Peer Provider: The company you selected to transmit your livescan. Some vendors funnel work your way. They have contracts with city, state or county agencies. This benefits you just by your purchase and using said vendor to transmit your livescan. You will be paid by the vendor for the work funneled to you.
The peer provider may also require you to have certain business hours in order for you to satisfy contracts they have.. A contract with the vendor may say something like "business hours need to be 9-5 m-f. The peer provider will assist you,
Some peer providers have no contracts. So you are entirely on your own finding your clients. Not to worry. You will find customers and they will find you.
